Founder Chairman

Datuk Umang Sharma is the Founder Chairman of CIIM since its inception in December 2005. He has been very instrumental in promoting Malaysia as an investment destination to Indian businessmen in India and also visiting Indian delegations. For his contributions in Malaysia, he was bestowed with the PMW Award from Federal Territories, which carries the title DATUK.

Datuk Umang led a delegation of Indian Corporate CEO’s for a dialogue session with the Indian Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi in Nov, 2015. Under his Chairmanship, CIIM organized another event to promote Malaysia India CECA with the Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, on Nov 22, 2011.

Under him, CIIM organized a full day Seminar to promote Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Agreement (CECA) 0n Apr 28, 2011, with YB Dato’ Seri Mustapa Mohamad, the Minister for International trade and Industry, as the Key Note Speaker.

He was member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Delegation to Malaysia in Dec, 2005 and had joint discussions with Malaysian PM and other officials. He was member of the CEO’s Delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to Malaysia in Oct, 2005 and Nov 2010, to promote bi-lateral trade. Initiated several Consultative Meetings with MITI Minister, Dato’ Seri Mustapa Mohamad, on how to get more investments from India.

Datuk Umang was the lead speaker at Second India Malaysia Strategic Dialogue, organized by Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), Malaysia and Indian Council of World Affairs on Jan 29, 2010

He facilitated visits of several Business Delegations to Malaysia, namely: Delegation of CEO’s of Indian Companies alongwith the Indian High Commissioner to ISKANDAR and Johor, on July 7, 2009. Delegation of Indian CEO’s along with the Indian High Commissioner to Northern Industrial Corridor, Penang on Oct 5, 2009. Delegation of Indian CEO’s along with the Indian High Commissioner to Sabah on Aug 3, 2009 Dialogue session with CEO of SME Corp on how to promote SME business associations between Malaysia and India on Jan 26, 2010. Actively participated in the Malaysia India Strategic Dialogue, organized by ASLI in 2008

Professional Experience

Datuk Umang Sharma is the Director & CEO of Bry-Air Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a company manufacturing Dehumidifiers and Energy Recovery Systems in Malaysia and exporting products to the ASEAN Region.

He has over 30 years of experience in the field of Energy and Environment and has been based in Malaysia for more than 20 years. Qualifications wise, Datuk Umang is a Mechanical Engineer and MBA from University of Strathclyde, UK.
